Australia Reads Brand & Identity

For this project, I was given the opportunity to work on a rebrand for a non-profit organisation that is focused on encouraging more Australians to pick up books. Their past strategies were aimed at a younger audience of kids and were now after a more mature and wider audience.

What I found challenging in particular during the client’s brief, was the lack of imagery for their logo. They were against the use of using elements that would be associated with reading activities such as books, as well as, other elements that obviously shouted “Australia”.

The early concept for this logo was a bookmark. However, it felt too complicated to look at, with the bookmark border. I opted for a more simple version for the finalised design. I had chosen a fun and energetic colour palette to match the brand’s values.

Final Outcome

Conclusion

I found this project to be really educative for me. Something that I hadn’t considered at the time of this project was reaching out to the client to discuss and gain a better perspective on their values and goals. I think I had failed pretty badly to create what the client was after. If I was given the opportunity to work with Australia Reads again, I’d propose a different rebranding.
